CG Technology in sports wagering deal with Baha Mar in the Bahamas

LAS VEGAS -- Sports betting company CG Technology announced a deal Friday with the $3.5 billion The Baha Mar Casino & Hotel in the Bahamas to provide the under-construction hotel-casino development with a mobile sports wagering system.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

According to a statement, Las Vegas based CG will provide Baha Mar with the technology for guests to download the company’s sports wagering application in order to make wagers on a smart phone, tablet computer and other mobile devices. The customer and the device would have to be located at the Baha Mar resort in Nassau.

The deal gives CG Technology a monopoly in the Bahamas. The company provides sports wagering technology to the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort.

The Baha Mar Casino and Hotel is the centerpiece of the development in Nassau, which is scheduled to open in the spring.

Sports wagering is only legal in four U.S. states, although Nevada is the only state with full scale sports wagering. New Jersey has been attempting to legalize sports wagering but has been shut out in the federal courts.

The Bahamas has laws allowing for sports wagering and Baha Mar is expected to market the activity heavily, based on the property’s location near the coast of Florida.

Operators of Baha Mar hope to attract East Coast gamblers to the resort, especially during major sporting events.

Baha Mar will build a race and sports lounge as part of the planned 100,000 square-foot casino.

Baha Mar’s Chief Operating Officer Paul Pusateri said resort guests will be able to access the sports wagering application anywhere on the property, including pool decks, the beach, and the golf course clubhouse.

In addition to the 1,000-room Baha Mar centerpiece, the development includes a 700-room Grand Hyatt Hotel, a 300-room SLS LUX Hotel, and a 200-room Rosewood at Baha Mar Hotel.

The development includes private residences, retail, dining and entertainment. A TPC Gold Course designed by Jack Nicklaus is part of Baha Mar.

CG Technology operates the race and sports books at eight Las Vegas resorts.
