Casino City’s Friday Five: Sportsbooks and casinos edition

14 September 2018

The NFL is back — and it couldn’t have come at a better time, with all of the new sportsbooks opening across the U.S. More than 30 new sportsbooks have opened across the U.S. since a Supreme Court ruling abolished PASPA back in May, but they are not the only hot topic in the world of gambling. This week, we have plans for new casinos being put into the works, along with a record-setting bingo payout.

Let's start with some bingo, shall we?

5. Largest bingo payout in Western New York history
A lucky Pennsylvania woman recently won $250,000 playing Gaming Arts, LLC’s Super Coverall Bingo at Seneca Gaming and Entertainment – Salamanca in New York. The record-breaking win was just one ball call away from being a $1,000,000 win.

Gaming Arts' Super Coverall Bingo game allows players to win a $1,000,000 grand prize for achieving a coverall in 47 ball calls or less, along with countless smaller jackpots up to $250,000.

Seneca Gaming and Entertainment Salamanca was celebrating its 36th birthday with a Million Dollar Bingo Special when Tara, a Pennsylvania resident in her forties, won the bingo jackpot by hitting on the 48th ball on Sunday, 5 August.

This $250,000 is the latest in a series of life-changing jackpots awarded, which most recently took place at BJ's Bingo & Gaming in Washington when a California woman won a $100,000 grand prize playing Gaming Arts' Super Coverall Big Jackpot Bingo.

4. $150,000 in Oktoberfest prizes at Intertops Casino
Until 8 October, players at Intertops Casino Classic will compete against each other for $30,000 in weekly prizes as the online casino kicks off the $150,000 Oktoberfest bonus giveaway.

During the five-week Oktoberfest bonus competition, slots and table game players will earn points when they play any of the casino’s games from Realtime Gaming. Every Monday until 8 October, the top 300 players will win up to $500 each. The top 20 are entered in a $1,000 final draw. The more that players play, the better their chances of winning. But even those that just play occasionally are eligible for random draws on Thursdays.

Players can accumulate points playing on their desktop or laptop computers or in the mobile casino on their smartphones or tablets.

3. Penn National Gaming files application for Hollywood Casino York
The company announced on Wednesday it has filed an application with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for the company’s first Category 4 satellite gaming facility. The facility will be located at the York Galleria Mall in Springettsbury Township, Pennsylvania.

The development of Hollywood Casino York represents an overall investment of nearly $120 million, including the company’s $52.6 million Category 4 slots and table games license fees. Hollywood Casino York, which will initially open with approximately 500 slot machines and 20 tables games, has been designed to accommodate up to 750 slot machines and 40 table games.

In addition, the facility will feature a casual dining restaurant and sports bar, a small entertainment lounge, and a "grab-and-go" eatery. Hollywood Casino York will generate approximately 200 new permanent local jobs and more than 75 construction jobs. The construction timeline is anticipated to be approximately 12 to 18 months following receipt of all requisite approvals, including final licensing by the PGCB.

2. 888 launches sports betting in New Jersey
The online gaming and entertainment solutions provider 888 Holdings Plc announced it has introduced the 888 Sport brand in New Jersey. The launch marks the first time that 888 has offered sports betting to customers in the U.S. and paves the way for the company to launch in additional states.

The launch of 888 Sport was done with Kambi, which will offer customers a sports market to bet on across desktop, mobile and tablet devices.

The launch complements the 888 Casino and 888 Poker brands already established in New Jersey, with each product leveraging 888’s powerful back-office systems, CRM and marketing capabilities to enhance the company’s return on investment. In addition, customers in the state will now be able to enjoy a poker experience, a portfolio of casino games and a leading range of sports betting markets from a single login and bankroll.
