Penn National lone bid for Kansas casino

COLUMBUS, Kansas -- As reported by the Joplin Globe: "Penn National Gaming probably can count on receiving the Cherokee County Commission's endorsement today as the manager of a state-owned casino in the county, one commissioner said.

"Commissioner Pat Collins said Friday that since Penn National is the only company that submitted a proposal to the commission, it likely would receive the endorsement. The decision is scheduled for 10 a.m.

"A delegation from the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma appeared before the commissioners on Monday, July 16. The tribe is planning to build a $200 million hotel and casino where Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri meet. Members of the delegation did not submit a proposal for the state casino, and Commissioners Rodney Edmondson and Charlie Napier said the group indicated that the tribe wasn't interested in operating the state-owned casino and hotel in Cherokee County. But Sean Harrison, a spokesman for the tribe, said the tribe continues to consider applying to operate the state-owned casino..."
