The continuation of incentives for electric two-wheelers under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme till March 2028 is a welcome and timely step towards accelerating India’s electric mobility transition and advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat and our sustainability goals. India has witnessed growing EV penetration, particularly in the two-wheeler segment, supported by a positive and evolving policy framework. However, with EV penetration still around 10% in the two-wheeler segment, there remains a significant distance to cover towards the target of 30% EV penetration by 2030. Continuity and stability in the policy regime will be important to build customer confidence, support price stability and sustain the momentum of EV adoption. This assumes greater significance in the current environment, with rising input costs driven by higher prices of key commodities such as steel, aluminium and copper, alongside the strengthening of the US dollar. The continuation of incentives will provide greater stability and predictability to the sector, helping manufacturers navigate rising input costs while supporting continued investments and making electric two-wheelers more accessible to consumers. We welcome this important policy decision and appreciate the Government’s continued support for electric mobility. FICCI, through its members, has been actively engaged in advocating for sustained policy support for the EV sector, and we are pleased that this recommendation has been considered. This is an important step towards building a stable, competitive and sustainable electric mobility ecosystem and accelerating India’s journey towards its long-term electrification goals: Dr Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Chair, FICCI Green Mobility Committee and Founder & CEO, Kinetic Green.
